If you haven’t noticed, Delicate Touch is Paraben Free. It’s plastered all over our website. But why are we Paraben Free? What does it matter? And what are parabens?

Parabens are one of the most popular preservatives in many cosmetic products as well as some food products. Its purpose is to extend shelf life by preventing fungus and bacteria. So what’s the problem? The problem is Parabens are also an endocrine system disruptor and are easily absorbed by the body.
Endocrine disruptors interfere with the normal function of the endocrine system by:
mimicking naturally occurring hormones in the body, potentially producing overstimulation;
interfering or blocking the way natural hormones or their receptors are made or controlled;
or by binding to a receptor within a cell and blocking the hormone from binding.
Parabens mimic the activity of the hormone Estrogen and are associated with certain forms of breast cancer. They can promote the growth of Estrogen-sensitive breast tumors. The most commonly used parabens are Methylparaben, Propylparaben, and Butylparaben, they can also be listed as Alkyl Parahydroxy Benzoates.
Should we avoid them?
There are many articles online with different opinions on Parabens. They all agree that Parabens were found in Estrogen-sensitive breast tumors, but some say there is no definitive evidence and others say the effects are not significant enough. Others say the complete opposite.
At Delicate Touch, we are Paraben Free because it is not a chance that we are willing to take. We believe in safe alternatives and we believe you and your family should have access to healthy cosmetic products.
